It is actually quite simple.
There are no Christians, Marxists, Deconstructionists, Capitalists... or there are none whom are interesting who identify completely with a particular belief. We have been blinded to the fact that all the great thinkers were those who held within themselves a raging pit of conflicting beliefs. St Paul struggled with gnosticism, Judaism and mystery religions. Marx nursed within his breast the snakes of French socialism, English capitalism and German philosophy. Derrida had the fangs of Marx, Nietzsche and Heidegger sunk deep within.
We forget these great thinkers created new ideas out of the furnace of holding many beliefs in conflict. They refused to let go of one at the expense of another. It is their "singular" belief we associate with great thought, not the struggle of many beliefs that gave rise to it.
So today a person will "believe" in Christianity, Existentialism, Post-Structuralism, Psychonalysis, Idealism, Catholicism, Mysticism, Dada, Science Fiction, Satire, Baudrillard... and so on. They believe in all and none, because we no longer believe in one, but many.
So in a sense it doesn't matter what you believe - are you a Catholic or Protestant? It is the spectrum of your beliefs, the shifting, swirling, shape-changing pattern of beliefs, interests, fascinations, stories, quotes, arguments and songs that forms your "philosophy". The more narrow, thin, weak your spectrum, the more pallid your beliefs.
So now we are all Prophets, because we all pass judgement. The day of the Priest, Doctor or Philosopher who told us what to believe and we humbly obeyed is over if it ever existed. Our knowledge of the heart, our gnosis, comes from our own prophetic power. We judge and God speaks. Not because we are higher than other humans, but because God is now within us all and a part of us all.
God is disseminated out into the world, a million pearls of light buried in darkness. Each distinct thought, belief or idea we pluck out of the mud starts to shine as we let it fuse into our souls.
Speak with many voices and hear the One.
