Quantum physics has revealed something of this mystery with the discovery that the physical world is an illusion, nothing is solid, everything is energy vibrating at different levels. Saying the universe is energy is a way of stating in scientific terms something approaching the spiritual insight that the universe is grace. Creation itself is constantly powered by God: "in him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28).
The world we live in is not a mechanical machine but the energy or grace of creation responds and connects with our spirits. We know that walking in the forest, contemplating the beauty of nature, looking up at the stars at night, connects us with God and empowers our spirits with his grace. Quantum physics has shown that the universe is interconnected with energy, beyond the physical appearance of the world. Adventism has always laid importance on finding and experiencing God in nature: Sabbath walks, summer camps, learning about nature and ensuring our bodies are natural and healthy all play a part in ensuring we are spiritually connected to God's grace.
Today more than ever we need to realise that contemplating nature allows God to empower our spirits and give us energy and grace to grow.
