MES 4 MBE - MAKE IT HAPPEN!

2004 will mark 25 years since the release of Live at the Witch Trials and this seems a good time for Mark Smith to be recognised for his contribution to British music - creating a succession of innovative styles and pushing the boundries between experimental, popular and progressive music.

Why an MBE? Well, because it matches MES and also because it seems the "easiest" honour to go for. Looking at http://www.englandfootballonline.com/TeamHons/HonsRoyal.html it appears that top of the list is a Knighthood, then CBE (Commander of the British Empire), then OBE (Officers of the Order of the British Empire) then finally MBE which is Members of the Order of the British Empire.

For musical comparisons: Bob Geldof got a Knighthood, Sting got an OBE and Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate got an MBE.

How do you nominate someone for an MBE? Well, I looked at http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page1232.asp#Q.%20How%20do%20I%20nominate%20someone%20for%20an%20honour? which in turn suggested going to http://www.cabinet-office.gov.uk/ceremonial/ which took me to http://www.cabinet-office.gov.uk/ceremonial/index/nomination.htm.

This basically asks you to download a form which you need to print and send in to an address provided. The form basically asks you to state why they should get an honour. It claims that nominations may take 12-18 months to actually get an award but I guess early 2005 could be acceptable.

I suggest as many people as possible do this in order to make it happen!
